Capital City Housing recently donated the use of our tractor at the Garden of Hope Project at Zwartkop Road in Prestbury. The tractor is being used to till the land and revive the Garden of Hope Project that was launched by Peacevalley 3 informal settlement resident Mr. Jabulani Ndlovu and DA Ward 36 Councillor, Ross Strachan.
In August 2020, the residents of Prestbury converted a vacant plot of land in Zwartkop Road, into the Hope Garden – a community garden project that was launched in light of the SA’s shocking food insecurity during the height of National Lockdown.
When Councillor Strachan called for assistance in ploughing the land to revive the garden, Capital City Housing NPC, a social housing provider in Pietermaritzburg, answered the call by donating the use of their tractor.
“We are extremely thankful to Capital City Housing for their generous support and use of their tractor, it has most certainly helped. The project was set back after the major hailstorm we faced in November last year, and the spirits of the community was dampened. However, the arrival of the tractor was the ignitor, and our team was motivated to get the project going once again.” says Councillor Strachan.
Khosi Xaso, Client Service Manager at Capital City Housing says, “We are extremely excited to be part of this project as it aligns with core ethos of our company, which is to uplift our community. We commend Councillor Strachan, the residents of Prestbury and all the members involved, in putting their hearts and hard work into this project.”
